Rules & Prohibited List

RULES

The UWW Anti-doping rules are based on the World Anti-Doping Code and have been adapted to Wrestling.

The World Anti-Doping Code is the core document that provides the framework for harmonized anti-doping policies, rules and regulations within sport organizations and among public authorities.

It works in conjunction with 8 International Standards aimed at bringing harmonization among anti-doping organizations in various areas:

PROHIBITED LIST

The Prohibited List identifies substances and methods prohibited in-competition, at all times (i.e. in- and out-of-competition) and in particular sports. Substances and methods are classified by categories (e.g. steroids, stimulants, masking agents). The list is updated annually following an extensive consultation process facilitated by WADA.

It is each athlete’s responsibility to ensure that no prohibited substance enters his/her body and that no prohibited method is used.

The WADA Prohibited List endeavours to capture as many known substances and methods that satisfy any two of the following three criteria:

  1. Potential to enhance or enhances sports performance

  2. An actual or potential health risk to the athlete

  3. Use violates the spirit of sport (outlined in the Code)

PRECAUTIONS FOR WRESTLERS

The list does not contain brand names of the medications, which vary from country to country. Before taking any medication, please make sure to check with your prescribing physician that it does not contain a prohibited substance.
