Accident/Illness Insurance & Emergency

IMSSA INSURANCE MEDICAL COVER

SUMMARY

Our License holders (U15, U17, U20, U23, Senior & Veteran Athletes, Coaches and Referees of all UWW styles) holding a license of the year are insured by IMSSA Insurance for accident and illness (except pre-existing ones) at UWW competitions under the conditions below.

IMSSA's benefits and procedure differ when an accident/illness occurs during a competition abroad (ambulatory medical expenses must be paid by the Federation on site and will be fully reimbursed to the Federation by IMSSA) or in the License holder's country of residence (in this case, only the accident will be reimbursed by IMSSA to the Federation on a subsidiary basis). Also, in the event of an emergency (tel +41 26 921 8001) during a competition abroad, IMSSA will pay the medical expenses directly to the hospital if applicable, and will organize the repatriation if necessary.

As a rule when the License holder returns to his/her country of residence for further treatment, he/she will benefit from IMSSA's subsidiary cover (the Federation must contact IMSSA before initiating any treatment).

A distinction is made between:

  • non-emergency cases: diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of a patient without, in general any night of hospitalisation
  • Emergencies: surgery, hospitalisation of one night or more, request of medical cover from hospital

Except in cases of emergency, reimbursements are made by IMSSA as soon as the Federation of the License holder has opened a case online on the Insurer's website www.imssa.org and has provided the requested UWW Medical Documents given on site by the Doctors.

Whatever the nature of the accident/illness, IMSSA info@imssa.org and UWW licensing@uww.org must be informed within 48 hours.

In view of the above, all our Licence holders are encouraged to take out insurance in their country of residence, in the event of a case of subsidiarity.
