SOFIA, Bulgaria (November 1) – The Bulgarian Olympic Committee this weeek commemorated the 90th anniversary of their Olympic charter with a celebration that included several of the biggest names in wrestling. Bulgaria entered Olympic competition during the 1924 Paris Games and has appeared in all but three Olympic games since.
To honor the country’s achievement and rich wrestling tradition, United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic, CELA President Tzeno Tzenov (BUL) and Bulgarian Wrestling Federation president Valentin Jordanov (BUL) joined Mr. Rosen Plevneliev - President of Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs. Stefka Kostadinova - President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and Mrs. Evgenia Radanova - Minister of Ministry of Youth and Sports for an evening of recognition.

Jordanov, the most decorated wrestler in Bulgarian history with 11 world medals including seven world championships and the 1996 Olympic Games in men’s freestyle at 52kg. He also earned bronze at the 1992 Games in Barcelona wrestling at the same weight.
Bulgaria’s wrestling pride was also evident during the 2013 efforts to Save Olympic Wrestling as President Plevneliev offered the sport his full support and met with Mr. Lalovic during the 2013 Junior World Wrestling Championships in Sofia.
