CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland - World champion wrestler Sofia MATTSSON (SWE) will represent FILA at the International Working Group (IWG) of the Women and Sport Conference June 12-15 at the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland.  The conference is considered the world’s leading forum on Women and Sport.

The Women and Sport Conference is considered a premier opportunity for sports leaders to discuss issues effecting women in sport with experts from around the world. Participation in the quadrennial conference has grown consistently since the first Women and Sport meeting in 1994 with approximately 500 – 700 participants from around the world expected to attend this year.

“FILA’s Participation in the Women and Sport conference reflects the rapid strides that are being made in gender equity in wrestling,” said FILA president Nenad Lalovic. “Women’s wrestling has been a key part of our evolvement. We have come a long way but have further to go and hope that our participation in the conference will allow us to benefit from the positive experience of experts in this area.”

A key part of the conference is the One Minute Message campaign about the importance of Women and Sport. Organizers and participants key message "Lead the Change - Be the Change." FILA Athlete’s Commission chairwoman and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Carol HUYNH (CAN) was one of the first wrestlers to post her One Minute Message and has been joined by 2012 world silver medalist Helen MAROULIS (USA) who also posted her message of support for the campaign.
