BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (July 8) – The United States women ran away with the team title on day two of the Cadet Pan American Championships with all nine entrants claiming a medal, six of which were gold.

Cadet World bronze medalist Macey KILTY (USA) led the American effort with a virtually perfect performance at 60 kg. Kilty was spectacular in every phase of the game as she downed all three of her opponents by technical fall, pitching a shutout throughout.

The 60 kg gold-medal match pitted Kilty against a game opponent, Susana LOZANO VEYTIA (MEX). None-the-less, Kilty implemented her game plan to perfection in a 12-0 route of her Mexican adversary. The American accented her tournament win with a closeout four-point takedown.

The five additional American champions matched Kilty’s efforts in terms of supremacy over their respective weight categories.

A U.S. star on the rise who qualified for the American Junior World Team, Cameron GUERIN (USA) utilized dynamic offense from the neutral and top positions to claim the 52 kg crown on Saturday. She notched a 43-second fall and 10-0 technical fall en route to the finals where she toppled Andrea Monserrat LOPEZ MARTINEZ (MEX), 8-3.

Cadet World Championships veteran Caitlyn WALKER (USA) exploded with two pins and a technical fall to claim the 40 kg title. Walker bested runner-up Mayerly Vitalia IBARRA CAICEDO (ECU) 11-0 in the bracket’s pivotal contest. Her savvy high-gutwrench maneuver from top, along with crisp takedowns, were on full display throughout her run to gold.

Angel RIOS (USA), Tilynne VASQUEZ (USA) and Hannah RAMOS (USA) also secured gold medals for the U.S. with impressive performances all around. Rios claimed the 46 kg title courtesy of a three-pin and one technical fall outing. Vasquez was victorious in three bouts to top the 49 kg bracket. Ramos went for one pin and one 10-0 bout to win the 65 kg gold.

For the second-straight day host nation Argentina found themselves with a champion. Linda Marilina MACHUCA (ARG) torched the 100 kg field with three dominant wins. She prevented the U.S. from gaining a seventh champion by defeating Tiyahna ASKEW (USA) 12-0 in the finals. Machuca was awarded the Golden Boot as the most outstanding wrestler of the women’s freestyle competition.

Fernanda Nicole ALDAZ LOPEZ (ECU) ran the table in three-straight matches at 43 kg to claim a gold medal for Ecuador. Aldaz Lopez began her day with a tight 4-2 decision over eventual silver medalist Samara CHAVEZ (USA). She tacked on two pins to cement herself atop the podium.

Three wrestlers finished with 3-1 records in the 56 kg round-robin bracket, and it was Saige Louise EVERTMAN (CAN) who held the ultimate criteria. Evertman was ousted by Michaela BECK (USA) 10-0 in the opening round of action, but reeled off three straight wins, including a crucial pin, to sneak atop the podium.

As the only entrant in her weight category, Julieta Esperanza MARTINEZ GONZALEZ (MEX) was awarded the 38 kg gold medal.

The U.S. picked up the team championships with plenty of room to spare. The American team stood in first place with 86 points coming from its nine medalists and six champions. Mexico found itself in second place with 59 points and six medalists. Canada finished in third place with 57 points and four medalists.

The Cadet Pan American Championships will conclude tomorrow with the men’s freestyle competition. Action begins at the Gimnasio Polideportivo CENARD in Buenos Aires at 1 p.m. local time. A live stream and complete results will be provided at unitedworldwrestling.org.
