MOSCOW (November 7-9) – Russia swept to all three titles at the European Nations Cup dual meet competition, rolling up a 62-10 record in individual bouts at the Druzhba sports hall in Moscow.

In female wrestling, world silver medalist Irina OLOGONOVA (RUS) won three bouts and London 2012 Olympic Games gold medalist Natalia VOROBIEVA (RUS) notched a pair of falls on their way to the women’s team title.
Azerbaijan, meanwhile, earned runner-up honors in freestyle and female wrestling and finished third in Greco-Roman after a 6-2 (22-8) loss to Russia in the preliminary pool and a 6-2 (22-9) win over Hungary.
In the Greco-Roman final, Russia won the first seven bouts but Nikola Petrov winner Attila GUZEL (TUR) held on for a 3-2 victory in the 130kg match over Vitali ILNITSKI (RUS), winner of the prestigious Ivan Poddubny tourney in January.
The top teams in each discipline at the European championships in April were invited to the European Nations Cup meet.
Earlier, in the Greco-Roman competition, 2013 world champion Ivo ANGELOV (BUL) defeated two-time Olympic Games silver medalist Rovshan BAYROAMOV (AZE) at 59kg.[[{"fid":"2229","view_mode":"wysiwyg","type":"media","link_text":null,"attributes":{"height":440,"width":850,"style":"width: 400px; height: 207px; margin: 5px; float: right;","class":"media-element file-wysiwyg"}}]] Azerbaijan, however, won the dual on classification points, 4-4 (19-17).
In freestyle, Golden Grand Prix Final winner Aleksander KHOTSIANIVSKI (UKR) won three bouts, including a forfeit from former junior world runner-up for Ukraine Muradin KUSHKHOV (RUS). Khotsianivski’s efforts paced Ukraine to a third-place finish.
And, while the Russian women dominated in their discipline, former world champion Sofia MATTSSON (SWE) and junior world bronze medalist Frederika PETERSSON (SWE) monopolized the two lightest weight categories and led Sweden to fifth place after a 4-4 (19-18) win over Bulgaria.
