Death of Alain Abbet

Corsier-suer-Vevey, Switzerland (September 18) -- Alain Abbet, a longtime employee of the international federation of wrestling, has died. He was 64.

Abbet worked for decades inside the governing body's secretarial department overseeing competition entry lists, updating results and managing on-site scheduling issues. A resident of Martigny, Switzerland Abbet had retired from Swisscom and was a close companion of former governing body president Raphael Martinetti. He was widely considered one of the kindest and most beloved staff members. 

"Alain was very popular and we are deeply saddened by this loss," said United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic. "He loved wrestling and his wife Eliane. They travelled the world together."

"He will be missed."  

Abbett is survived by his sons, Thierry and Samuel and his grandson Merlin.
