Riza KAYAALP proved to be one of Turkey's two bright spots as Turkey took a heavy 6-2 loss to the strong Russian side. The 2011 world champion climbed back to win 7-4 after Sergey SEMENOV (RUS) opened up a four point lead in :45. Hungary secured their spot in tomorrow's 5th place final with a hard-fought 5-3 win over Armenia.

Iran bounced back in the second round of wrestling Thursday afternoon, racking up six wins against an overmatched Swedish team. Payam BOYERI (IRI) was impressive in blitzing past Sharur VARDANYAN (SWE) by TF, 8-0 at 70kg. As expected, Azerbaijian wrestled past Sweden, 7-1, with their only blemish coming at 98kg when Felix RADINGER squeaked past Orkhan NURIYEV, 3-2 .

Russia continued their winning streak in the second round, working past Armenia, 7-1. Armenia, who is sitting their pair of defending world champions, had another standout performance from junior world champion Karapet CHALYAN who topped Alexandr CHEKHIRKIN, 1-1 for Armenia's sole win. The Hungarians and Turkish sides needed every second of every match to decide their 4-4 match draw, with Turkey winning on the tie breaker with one more technical point than opponent Hungary.

In an early blow to Team Iran's dreams for a repeat, Azerbaijan handled the host country with ease, defeating their rival, 6-2. The Azerbaijani's were led by the unexpected vicoty of Rafig HUSEYNOV over Habibollah AKHLAGHI, 5-4 at 80kg and and heart-stopping Rasul CHUNAYEV come-from-behind win over Ramin TAHERI, 4-4.  In the other first-round matchup in Group A it was Sweden who used two techinical falls and a fall to sprint past Germany 6-2.

Russia and Turkey opened their days on the mat with impressive performances against quality competition. The Russians needed every win they could find in besting a game Hungarian squad, 5-3. Evgeny SALEEV (RUS) proved to be the decisive wrestler for the Russian opening up a big lead, and then holding on late, to beat 2014 world champion Peter BACSI, 7-6 at 80kg. The Turkish team had an easier time defeating long-time rival Armenia in the first round, 6-2. Armenia was wrestling without world champions Arsen JULFALAKYAN (75kg) and Artur ALEKSANYAN (98kg) but did get a nice win from 2013 junior world champion Karapet CHALYAN over Emrah KUSH, 3-0 at 75kg.

La Russie et la Turquie ont bien commencé la compétition et ont impressionné le public grâce à la qualité de leurs matchs. Les russes ont eu besoin de chaque match pour battre une équipe de Hongrie très en forme, 5-3. Evgeny SALEEV (RUS) a permis à la Russie de gagner ; il a donné gros avantage à son équipe en battant le champion du monde  de 2014 Peter BACSI, 7-6 à 80kg. L’équipe de Turquie a eu plus de facilité à battre l’Arménie, son adversaire de longue date, en premier round sur le score de 6-2. Les champions du monde Arsen JULFALAKYAN (75kg) et Artur ALEKSANYAN (98kg) n’étaient pas présents, mais l’Arménie a quand même bénéficié d’une belle victoire de la part du champion du monde junior de 2013 Karapet CHALYAN face à Emrah KUSH, 3-0 à 75kg.
