Big Names Bag Gold at 2016 World Military Championships

Team Russia showed up to the Military Games with a loaded team, and came away with an impressive six gold medals. Three world medalists headed to Macedonia to compete for Russia including 2014 world champion and 2015 world silver medalist Abdusalam GADISOV who deferated Alikhan JUMAEV (KAZ) in the final match at 97kg.

Khetik TSABOLOV, a 2014 world champion, won the 74kg final bout against Mohammad ZAREI (IRI) to gain another gold medal for Russia. He also participated in 75kg Greco-Roman and placed 11th among 17 wrestlers.

The world bronze medal winner in 2013, Magomed KURBANALIEV beat Azimov (AZE) in the 70kg final bout to repeat his last year’s title in World Military Championships. Nachyin KUULAR (61kg), Shamil KUDIYAMAGOMEDOV (86kg) and Alan KHUGAEV (125kg) achieved other three gold medals for Russia.

The two other individual titles went to Agahueseyin MUSTAFAEV (AZE) and 2014 Asian Games champion Jong HAk JIN (PRK).

In Greco-Roman, 2010 world champion and six time European medalist Hasan ALIYEV (AZE) defeated 2015 world bronze medal winner Adam KURAK (RUS) in the 71kg final match.

Pascal EISELE (GER), a 2016 European champion, also beat former European champion Rafik HUSEYNOV (AZE) to win 80kg gold medal.  Imil SHARAFEDINOV (RUS) , a 2010 World bronze medal winner, placed third in this weight category.

Russia bagged three gold medals in Greco-Roman as 2015 European Games champion and 2014 world silver medalist Evgeni SALEEV (RUS) won the 85kg final match against former World champion in junior and cadets categories Islam ABBASOV (AZE).

2012 Olympics silver medal winner and 2013 world champion Hieki NABI (EST) who place fifth at Rio Olympics, captured 130kg gold medal, defeating another fifth place wrestler at Rio Games Eduard POPP (GER). 2016 European runner up and 2015 world bronze medalist Aleksander CHERNETSKI (UKR) and Mindaugas MIZGAITIS (LTU) came third in heavy weight.

In women wrestling, China gained half of gold medals as two Poland titled wrestlers won 63 and 69kg bouts.

Liao RONG (53kg), Li HUI (55kg), Feng HUIMIN (58kg) and Chen XIAOFANG (60kg) were Chinese gold medal winners in 2016 World Military Championships.

2016 Olympic bronze medal winner Monika Ewa MICHALIK and 33 years old Agnieszka WIESZCEK-KORDUS, a 2008 Olympic bronze medal winner,  grabbed two gold for Poland.
