Mihály Bíró, who served as honorary Vice President of United World Wrestling, passed away on May 9. He was 89 years old. 

Bíró was a longtime President of the Hungarian Wrestling Federation for 18 years, holding the position from 1974 until 1992.


He was member of United World Wrestling between 1974-1980, before serving as Vice President of the international federation between 1980-2000.

Bíró held his position until the 2000's when he was elected to be the Honorary President of the Hungarian Wrestling Federation.


During Bíró's tenure as Honorary President of the Hungarian Wrestling Federation, the city of Budapest hosted several major wrestling competitions, including the 1982 Team World Cup, 1983 European Championships, 1985 Freestyle Wrestling World Championships and 1986 World Championships. The city of Kaposvár hosted the Freestyle Wrestling European Championship in 1992.
