The two-time U23 world champion Mohamed Ibrahim Elsayed Ibrahi ELSAYED (EGY) will be competing at his first Olympic Games in Tokyo. He qualified for the Games after reaching the semifinal at the senior World Championships in 2019. This was his first senior Worlds and his run was only ended by Olympic and World champion Ismael BORRERO (CUB). In the bronze medal bout, he lost to three-time world champion Frank STAEBLER (GER) 6-5. Given his results at the World Championships, African Championships and the two ranking series events, Elsayed will be seeded second at the Tokyo Olympics. In his last competition before the Olympics, he finished second at the Poland Open.
