Magomedgadji NUROV (MKD) had failed to qualify for the Rio Games after losing at all three qualifying events. But he booked his ticket to Tokyo with a bronze medal finish at the 2019 World Championships in Nursultan. He lost to Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) in the semifinal 6-0. He later returned to beat Alisher YERGALI (KAZ) 8-5 to win the bronze medal. Born in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia, Nurov transferred to North Macedonia in 2014. He will be seeded number four for the Tokyo Games.
