Born in Puttlinger, Germany, Etienne KINSINGER (GER) came out on top from a difficult field at the European Qualifiers to win the Olympic spot for his country. In the first round, he overcame Helary MAGISALI (EST) before beating Ivan LIZATOVIC (CRO) in the quarterfinals. In the all-important semifinal, he beat Murad MAMMADOV (AZE) to clinch the spot for Germany. He had lost to Ildar HAFIZOV (USA) in the Round of 32 at the 2019 Worlds. He is also a former cadet world champion.
