Daulet NIYAZBEKOV (KAZ w)on silver medal at 2019 World Championships to secure berth in 2nd Olympics. Scored a controversial 9-9 victory in semifinals over Bajrang PUNIA (IND), in which he nearly squandered a 9-2 lead. Was dealt a one-sided 10-0 loss in final by Gadshimurad RASHIDOV (RUS)...Only other medal in 6 previous trips to World Championships was bronze in debut in 2011...Finished 5th at London 2012 Olympics at 55kg. Lost to Dyamal OTARSULTANOV (RUS) in semifinals and Kyong-Il YANG (PRK) in bronze-medal match...7-time Asian medalist, including 3 golds. Won the 2018 title at 65kg over Daichi TAKATANI (JPN), and 2015 and 2016 golds at 61kg, beating Behnam EHSANPOOR (IRI) in both finals.
