Originally from Kizilyurt in Dagestan, Russia, Ali SHABANAU (BLR) will be traveling for his second Olympic Games after he finished 10th in London in 2012. Then participating in the 66kg, he lost in the quarterfinals. A five-time world bronze medalist, Shabanau qualified for the Games by winning the European Qualifiers in Budapest. He defeated Akhmed MAGAMAEV (BUL) in the semifinal to qualify after a gap of nine years.
