Wrestling Presentation Held in Rio for Olympic Games Employees

A wrestling presentation was on held Friday, May 15 at the headquarters of the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio 2016 in the neighborhood of Cidaded Nova, Rio de Janeiro to help employees of the Olympic Games learn more about the sport of wrestling.

Employees were able to learn, ask questions about Olympic Wrestling and still have a practice on the mat. The presentation began with Roberto Leitão, the Executive Director of the Brazilian Confederation of Associated Wrestling Style (CBLA), explaining the rules and regulation used in matches, how scoring occurs and advancement occurs in the Olympic system.

Kenedi Pedrosa and André Pinto demonstrated the specifics of Greco-Roman wrestling where the legs can´t be used to defend and or attack and opponents. Afterwards Fabiana Alcantara and Carol Soares showcased the techniques of freestyle and women´s wrestling.

"These actions are very important for employees who are involved with the Olympic Games on daily basis and may have a direct contact with the sport to learn more about the rules and the dynamic of the sport,” said Leitão. Gilles Tonoli, the leader of Wrestling in Rio 2016 Committee, presented where and when the Olympic Wrestling competition will take place during the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.

The highlight was a quiz held among the audience with a special edition book from the United World Wrestling going to the winner.
