Nasser GIVEHCHI, an Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, passed away at his home in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on May 15.
Givehchi’s Olympic silver medal came in the featherweight division (63kg) at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland. He also competed in the 1956 Olympic Games held in Melbourne, Australia, where he placed sixth. Givehchi placed fifth at the 1954 World Wrestling Championships in Tokyo, and claimed a gold medal at the 1958 Asian Games.
Following his competitive wrestling career, Givehchi served as the head coach Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling teams and was an international wrestling referee.
