News and Notes: Freestyle Wrestling 86kg and 125kg

12:33: Two-time world champion Taha AKGUL (TUR) cruised to a 7-1 win over Levan BERIANIDZE (ARM) in the semifinals at 125kg to set up a meeting with Ghasemi tonight.

12:25: Komeil GHASEMI (IRI) needed just 33 seconds to earn a 10-0 technical fall over two-time world bronze medalist Tervel DLAGNEV (USA) to advance to the finals at 125kg. Ghasemi picked up a takedown and then used four gut wrenches to finish the match. The Iranian will upgrade his Olympic medal as he finished with  bronze in London.

12:13: Selim YASAR (TUR) punched his ticket to the gold-medal match at 86kg by edging J'den COX (USA) 2-1. Yasar scored in the first period off the shot clock. A step-out point for Cox made the score 1-1. A caution on Cox gave Yasar the lead on criteria. Cox was close to a takedown as time expired, but ran out of time. Yasar tacked on another point from a failed challenge by USA. 

12:12: Two-time world champion Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) rolled to the finals with a convincing 8-1 victory over Sharif SHARIFOV (AZE) at 86kg. Sadulaev picked up a quick takedown and scored two gut wrenches to go up 6-0. He would add another takedown in the second period to win by seven. 

12:01: Komeil GHASEMI (IRI) edged world No.1 Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO) 4-4 on criteria. Petriashvili led 3-0 in the second period, but Ghasemi battled back with a takedown and gut wrench to take the match. He will now battle Tervel DLAGNEV (USA), who won 3-2 over Robert BARAN (POL). 

11:50: Two-time world champion Taha AKGUL (TUR) was unchallenged in his semifinal match as he dominated Ibrahim SAIDAU (BLR) 11-0 to reach the semifinals at 125kg. He will now face Levan BERIANIDZE (ARM) who topped Daniel LIGETI (HUN)  3-1.

11:40: J'den COX (USA) topped world bronze medalist Alireza KARIMIMACHIANI (IRI) 5-1 to advance to the semifinals at 86kg. After a 1-1 first period, Cox used two takedowns in the second period off leg attacks to pull away for the victory. His semifinals opponent: two-time world medalist Selim YASAR (TUR), who defeated Reineris SALAS PEREZ (CUB) 5-2. 

11:29: Two-time world champion Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) blanked Pedro Francisco CEBALLOS FUENTES (VEN) 5-0 at 86kg. He will now face Olympic champion Sharif SHARIFOV (AZE), who defeated Zbigniew Mateusz BARANOWSKI (POL) 7-0. 

11:19: Olympic bronze medalist Komeil GHASEMI (IRI) won his second match of the day, beating Diaaeldin Kamal Gouda ABDELMOTTALEB (EGY) 7-0 in the final round of 16 match at 125kg. 

11:11: World No.1 Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO) notched an 11-6 victory over 2013 world silver medalist Alen ZASIEIEV (UKR) at 125kg.

11:07: Tervel DLAGNEV (USA), a two-time world bronze medalist, scored a takedown with 10 seconds left to come from behind and beat returning world silver medalist Jamalladin MAGOMEDOV (AZE) 6-5 at 125kg. Magomedov led 5-0 until midway through the second period when Dlagnev scored a takedown and leg lace to make it 5-4. Then won the match with a single leg attack. 

10:49: Two-time world champion Taha AKGUL (TUR) advanced to the quarterfinals at 125kg with a 10-0 technical fall over Chuluunbat JARGALSAIKHAN (MGL).

10:47: J'den COX (USA) used strong leg attacks to cruise to a 7-1 victory over Amarhajy MAHAMEDAU (BLR) at 86kg. 

10:40: Reineris SALAS PEREZ (CUB) used a foot sweep to throw KIM Gwanuk (KOR) to his back and secure a fall at 86kg.

10:35: Returning Olympic champion Sharif SHARIFOV (AZE) was impressive in picking up a 10-0 technical fall over BI Shengfeng (CHN) at 86kg. He used a four-point throw to go up 4-0 and then cruised to the technical fall.

10:26: Two-time world champion Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) made it look easy in picking up a 10-0 technical fall over Istvan VEREB (HUN) early in the second period. He scored with a takedown and gut wrench in the first period, then an early second-period takedown and two gut wrenches ended the match. 

10:21: World No.1 Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO) rolled to a 10-0 technical victory over Dimitar Angelov KUMCHEV (BUL) at 125kg.

10:19: Alen ZASIEIEV (UKR) knocked off three-time world champion Bilyal MAKHOV (RUS) 2-2 on criteria at 125kg. Zasieiev was trailing 2-0 late after giving up two step-out points. Then, with 20 seconds left, the Ukrainian shot and took down Makhov for the criteria victory. 

10:10: Mihail Petrov GANEV (BUL) was trailing late before picking up a fall as time expired over Uitumen ORGODOL (MGL) at 125kg. 

10:06: World bronze medalist Alireza KARIMIMACHIANI (IRI) opened his day with a 9-0 shutout victory over Mohamed SAADAOUI (TUN) at 125kg.
