TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (May 10) – Iran kicked off the first day of competition at the 2018 Cadet Asian Championships by winning three of the seven possible Greco-Roman gold medals. The host nation, Uzbekistan, along with Japan, Kazakhstan and Korea also had a wrestler capture a gold medal.

Amirreza DEHBOZORGI (IRI) used a four-point comeback in the final 20-seconds to steal the 45kg gold medal from Akyikat KULZHIGIT UULU (KGZ), 5-5. 

Dehbozorgi trailed 5-0 late in the opening period after giving up a passivity point and two gut wrenches. He finally got on the board with a step out to end the first period. The Iranian bulldozed Kulzhigit Uulu with two high-level shots in the final 20 second of the closing period to steal the gold medal on criteria, 5-5.

Sajjad ABBASPOURRAGANI (IRI) stopped a late surge from Iskhar KURBAYEV (KAZ) in the 48kg gold medal bout to give Iran back-to-back continental titles. 

Abbaspourragani’s second period takedown extended his lead to 5-0. Kurbayev picked up four points of his own and closed the gap to 5-4, but the Iranian got a front head and spun behind for the 7-4 victory. 

Mohammad NOSRATI (IRI) gave Iran their third gold medal of the night after shutting out Kumar NITESH (IND), 6-0 in the 92kg finals. 

Nosrati picked up a four-point throw and immediately went into a gut, picking up the matches six points.

Japan’s lone finalist, Wataru SASAKI (JPN) used a three-point second period to beat Firuz MIRZORADZHABOV (TJK), 3-0 in for the 51kg title. 

Although Mirzoradzhabov picked up the lone takedown of the bout, he was knocked for passivity and gave up a caution-and-two to drop the match, 3-2.

Din Mukhamed KOSHKAR (KAZ) outscored Amirbek SULTONOV (UZB) 3-0 in the final period to win the 55kg title, 3-1.

At 60kg, Asilbek NEMATOV (UZB) was up Up 11-3 over Shahin Eidi BADAGHI MOFRAD (IRI) before picking up the fall to give the host nation their first gold medal of the Asian Championships. 

EUN Sungjun (KOR) closed out the first day of action with a 14-second fall over Mukhammadali SAYDULLAEV (UZB) in the 110kg finals.
