KATOWICE, Poland – Petra OLLI (FIN) rallied late for a win on criteria in the 59kg final to claim her fourth straight title in women’s freestyle at the European junior wrestling championships.

In a battle of junior world bronze medal winners at Hala Spodek arena, Olli slipped behind Oksana HERHEL (UKR) late in the second period to knot the score at 5-5. The 20-year-old Nordic champion was awarded the victory at the end of the bout, having scored the last points of the match.

Anzhela KATAEVA (RUS) stopped 2013 cadet world champion Anastasia SHUSTOVA (UKR) in the quarterfinals on her way to her first junior-level title, while giving Russia the team title on a tie-breaker with Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine tied for the team title with 52 points each, but Russia had the edge in medals with three champions and two bronze medal winners while Ukraine could only boast a pair of silver medals and two bronze.  Turkey finished third with 43.5 points.

Along with Kataeva, Russia received gold medal performances from Yarygin Grand Prix bronze medalist Natalya MALYSHEVA (RUS) at 51kg and 2013 junior world bronze medal winner Olga KHOROSHAVTSEVA (RUS) at 55kg.

Defending champions Miglena SELISHKA (BUL) and Buse TOSUN (TUR) held onto to their crowns at 44kg and 63kg, respectively.  Selishka won last year’s junior title as a 17-year-old cadet and also took the silver medal at 43kg in the 2013 cadet world championships.

Also, Violeta CHYRYK (BLR) rallied for seven points in the second period against junior world bronze medalist Evin DEMIRHAN (TUR) for an 8-6 triumph at 48kg and her first medal as a junior.

Dalma CANEVA (ITA), a junior world bronze medal winner last year in Sofia, came from behind against Natalya MAZUR (UKR) for an 8-6 victory in the 69kg final and her first international triumph since winning the European cadet crown in 2011.
