China Claims Pair of Women's Wrestling Golds at Cadet Asian C'Ships

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (May 11) - China capped off the second day of wrestling at the 2018 Cadet Asian Championships with a pair of women’s wrestling gold medals. India, Japan, and Uzbekistan also had wrestlers claim a top spot on the podium.

China’s SHI Zhaojing turned a 3-0 first-period deficit into a 6-3 victory to take the 53kg title.

The Chinese claimed their second gold of the night when ZHANG Mengwei (CHN) used a low-level double, and four left sided gut wrenches to pick up the 35-second technical superiority victory over GANBOLD Namuuntsetseg (MGL) in the 69kg championship bout. 

At 40kg, Munojatkhon SAMIEVA (UZB) trailed BATSAIKHAN Nomun, 4-0 before picking up the fall to steal first place. 

The Uzbek used a swing single to a dump to pick up her takedown and immediately jumped to a half nelson to pick up the fall with two seconds left in the opening period.

Japan’s Umi ITO defeated China’s XIE Xiaomin (CHN) 13-0 to win the 46kg title.

Ito completed the technical superiority win with four takedowns, a four-point throw and one point lost Chinese challenge.

Anshu ANSHU (IND) controlled the 61kgfinals bout from whistle-to-whistle, shutting out Japan’s Ruka NATAMI (JPN), 4-0.

Greco-Roman 
Iran picked up their fourth title of the tournament, while Japan and Kazakhstan closed out the second day of wrestling with their second Greco-Roman gold medal.

Mohammad NAGHOUSI (IRI) outlasted Beomsoo CHEON (KOR), 6-5 in the back-and-forth battle for the 80kg title.

Naghousi picked up a takedown with under ten seconds left to give Iran their fourth Greco-Roman gold medal.

At 65kg, Kazakhstan’s second champion, Abdiazim KARABAYEV (KAZ) picked up a caution-and-two in the second period to secure the 9-0 technical superiority victory over Bakdaulet EGEMBERDIEV (KGZ) in the 65kg gold-medal bout.

Shu YAMADA (JPN) gave Japan their second Greco-Roman gold medal with a 6-2 victory over Khabibdzhon ZUKHUROV (TJK) in the 71kg gold-medal bout. 

Yamada, who outscored Zukhurov 5-0 in the final period joined fellow countryman Wataru SASAKI (JPN) as a 2018 Cadet Asian gold medalist.
