Javrail SHAPIEV (UZB) secured place at Tokyo Olympics by winning Asian Olympic qualifying tournament, defeating Azamat DAULETBEKOV (KAZ) in semifinals by fall at the buzzer while leading 5-2, then beating Zushen LIN (CHN) 7-3 in final....Won bronze medal two months earlier at Ukrainian International....Finished 12th at 2019 World Championships, losing 6-0 to Artur NAIFONOV (RUS) in 2nd round. One month before Nur-Sultan, finished 2nd at Alexander Medved Prizes to Nathan JACKSON (USA). One month after, won bronze medal at Continental Cup after losing in quarterfinals to Daultetbekov. Also lost to Dauletbekov in bronze-medal match at 2018 Asian Championships...13th at world U-23 in 2018 and 15th at world junior in 2017....Bronze medalist at Asian junior in 2017 in 1st tournament for Uzbekistan...Competed for native Russia until 2015. Was European cadet champion in 2014.
