A former junior world champion, Giorgi MELIA (GEO) qualified Georgia for the Tokyo Olympics by reaching the semifinals, where he was beaten by Artur ALEKSANYAN (ARM), at the 2019 World Championships. He lost to Cenk ILDEM (TUR) in the bronze medal bout. While he is yet to medal at the senior World or European Championships, he already has two medals – a silver and a bronze – at the U23 Worlds and a silver at the U23 Euros.
