Karapet CHALYAN (ARM) did try qualifying Armenia for the 2016 Olympic Games but failed to achieve the target. The former Junior World and European champion qualified for the Tokyo Games by reaching the semifinal at the 2019 World Championships in Nursultan. He lost to Alex KESSIDIS (SWE) in the semis before dropping his bronze medal bout to Mohammad GERAEI (IRI) 9-6. Despite that, he will be seeded third in Tokyo.
