Alin ALEXUC-CIURARIU (ROU) qualified for the Tokyo Games via the World Qualifiers, winning a gold medal in Sofia. After failing to qualify from 2019 Worlds and European Qualifiers, Alexuc-Ciurariu defeated Rafał KRAJEWSKI (POL) in the semifinal in Sofia to earn a ticket. This will be his third Olympics as he has competed at the London and Rio Games. In London, he lost to the then world champion Elis GURI (BUL). Four years later, he managed to reach the quarterfinal against Artur ALEKSANYAN (ARM). In repechage, he defeated Daigoro TIMONCINI (ITA) but lost to Cenk ILDEM (TUR) in the bronze medal bout.
