NAGOYA, Japan (October 3) -- The final day of wrestling at the 20th Asian Games will action in Freestyle 57kg, 74kg and 97kg and Women's Wrestling 53kg and 57kg.
13:17: Moe KIYOOKA (JPN) brings some cheer back to the partisan crowd that has just seen the stunning losses of Yoshida and Fujinami, storming into the women’s 57kg final with her third straight technical fall. Kiyooka continues her devastating form with a 12-0 whipping of Otgontuya BAYANMUNKH (MGL), capping the rout with statement 4-point takedown in the final minute.
13:16: Akari FUJINAMI (JPN) only sits on the mat in shock. After 155 matches without a loss dating back nine years to her junior high school days, the Olympic and two-time world champion tastes defeat for the first time, and it comes hard and heavy. World silver medalist Il Sam SON (PRK) dominates their 57kg semifinal, piling up a 10-0 lead before ending it by fall as if to show Fujinami that her move up from 53kg to 57kg would be no easy ride. Son grabs a takedown, then splits Fujinami’s legs and twice levers her over for exposures for a 6-0 lead at the break. In the second period, Fujinami is kept from setting up, and twice falls for Son’s barrel roll. The fall, and the fall of Fujinami, comes at 3:52.
13:10: Sherzod POYONOV (UZB) hangs on for a 9-8 win over Deepak PUNIA (IND) and enter the 97kg semifinals. Punia was there the whole time but Poyonov forces multiple stepouts every time it seemed that Punia was about to get one. 97kg may be too much for Punia who, most likely, will be back to 86kg
12:56: Olympic bronze medalist Amirali AZARPIRA (IRI) couldn’t have picked a better setting for a bit of revenge. Azarpira scores two stepouts in the first period and a takedown in the second, then holds on for a 4-3 victory over Arash YOSHIDA (JPN) in the 97kg semifinals, denying the reigning Asian champion a shot at an Asian Games gold on home soil. The victory avenges a loss to Yoshida in the Asian final in April and puts him into tonight’s final against Sherzod POYONOV (UZB).
12:55: 12:55: Yoshinosuke AOYAGI (JPN) does it again. Takedown, secure lace lock or legs, roll, repeat four times. This time the victim is Orozobek TOKTOMAMBETOV and their 74kg semifinal encounter lasts just 44 seconds, making Aoyagi the first of the four Japanese still in action to make tonight’s finals.
12:52: AMAN (IND) into the semifinals at 57kg after an 11-1 win over Nurdanat AITANOV (KAZ). The pace is one thing no one has been able to match so far and he scores five different takedowns to get the win and a spot in the semifinals.
12:45: ANTIM (IND) into the 53kg semifinals after a fall over Sakibjamal ESBOSYNOVA (UZB). She led only 2-0 at the break but works on a takedown to make it 4-0. An 8-0 lead before she gets the fall. She will most likely face Jin ZHANG (CHN) and their previous two bouts have been nothing short of insane
12:29: Akari FUJINAMI (JPN), wrestling a bit tentatively to avoid any more slip-ups, manages to break through against a totally defensive MANISHA (IND) for a stepout and takedown in the first period, and that’s all she needs for a 3-0 win and spot in the semifinals. Manisha never makes an attacking action, relying solely on waiting to counter.
12:27: Moe KIYOOKA (JPN) continues to look in good form, powering her way to a 10-0 victory over Vatansulton SHAKARSHOEVA (TJK) and into the 53kg semifinals.
12:10: Yones EMAMI (IRI), who defeated Razambek JAMALOV (UZB), moves into the semifinals at 74kg after a 10-0 win over Sagar JAGLAN (IND), scoring his points using the gut-wrench
12:10: Arash YOSHIDA (JPN) uses a mix of takedowns, stepouts and raw power to notch an 11-1 win over Rizabek AITMUKHAN (KAZ) to advance to the 97kg semifinals. The match was replay of the 2025 Asian final, won 7-1 by Yoshida for the second of his three Asian golds.
12:03: Never a dull moment when Indian and Japanese lightweights square off. Olympic bronze medalist AMAN (IND) and Yamato OGAWA (JPN) trade the lead no less than seven times before the Indian pulls away in the second period for a 20-9 win in their freestyle 57kg second-round match. Ogawa holds his own in the first period, when he scores with a nice 4-point reverse trip and ends the frame with a 9-8 lead. But Aman then went on a second-period spree of takedowns, scoring five before adding an exposure to end the match at 4:27.
11:57: Yoshinosuke AOYAGI (JPN) storms into the 74kg semifinals with a quicksilver 10-0 rout of Viktor RASSADIN (TJK). Aoyagi gets his takedown, plants his head between Rassadin’s legs and rips off four rolls in succession to end the match in 27 seconds.
11:45: No problem for world and Asian Games bronze medalist ANTIM (IND) as she beats Shugyla OMIRBEK (KAZ), 9-0, at 53kg. Four different takedowns for Antim in her scoring as she moves into the quarterfinals.
11:40: World champion Chongsong HAN (PRK) pins Gayan EKANAYAKA (SRI) and advances at 57kg. Han moves swiftly on the mat and will be among the favorite to win
11:38: Former Asian champion MANISHA (IND) opens her day with an 8-0 win over Youngjin KWON (KOR). Typical Manisha win with pushout and the occasional takedown. She moves into the 57kg quarterfinals
11:34: Former world 55kg champion Moe KIYOOKA (JPN), aiming to joining the Japanese women’s parade to the top of the medal podium with a title at women’s 57kg, punctuates her 12-0 victory over Seoyoung PARK (KOR) with a 4-point takedown to advance to the quarterfinals.
11:33: Il Sim SON (PRK), a world silver medalist at 57kg, opens her campaign with a 7-0 win over Thi My Trang NGUYEN (VIE). Son will be a big hurdle for Akari FUJINAMI (JPN).
11:22: Olympic champion Akari FUJINAMI (JPN) has been looking forward to the Asian Games in her home region ever since Nagoya was selected. It very nearly ends for her, along with her 153-match winning streak, in less than a minute. After Khulan BATKHYUYAG (MGL) surprisingly opens the match with a quick stepout, she then trips Fujinami straight to her back! One side judge signals a fall, but it is not confirmed, and Fujinami fights to her stomach trailing 5-0. She then shakes off the initial shock and gets down to the business of doing what she does best -- using her devastating single-leg takedown to pile up the points. She scores takedown after takedown, with a few exposures thrown in, until she has built up a 16-5 lead that ends the match at 4:07.
11:20: Amirali AZARPIRA (IRI) warms up with a 10-0 win over Muhammad GULZAR (PAK). He scores six points in the first half and four in the second to complete a technical superiority win.
11:18: World bronze medalist and three-time Asian champion Arash YOSHIDA (JPN) warms up for his tough ride to what he hopes is an Asian Games gold on home soil with a victory by fall over an overwhelmed Rottha HENG (CAM). Like his compatriots, he will have to be on alert in his next match against a formidable opponent in Rizabek AITMUKHAN (KAZ), which will be a rematch of the 2025 Asian final won by Yoshida.
11:10: Tulga TUMUR OCHIR (MGL), Asian Games champion at 65kg in 2022, moves up to 74kg only for this tournament. He does not have a great start as Sagar JAGLAN (IND) beats him 8-1 in the first match. Physically different
11:00: Olympic champion Razambek JAMALOV (UZB) becomes the second Olympic champion to fall on consecutive days at the Asian Games. Yones EMAMI (IRI) takes him out 7-6 in the opening bout at 74kg. Emami led 3-2 at the break but a scramble in the second period was awarded two and two before a reversal for Jamalov. He managed to turn Emami for a 6-5 lead. Emami kept his cool and scored a takedown even as Jamalov tried a hip-toss. He defended his 7-6 lead to beat the Paris champion.
10:57: Asian champion Yoshinosuke AOYAGI (JPN) gets his campaign for an Asian Games gold at 74kg off to an untroubled start, cruising to a 10-0 victory over Gilang ILHAZA (INA). The 2025 world champion at 70kg can expect a tougher test in his next match with Viktor RASSADIN (TJK).
10:55: Viktor RASSADIN (TJK) with three points in the second period to overcome a 2-0 deficit and beat Magomedrasul ASLUEV (BRN), 3-2, at 74kg
10:52: Unheralded Yamato OGAWA (JPN) gets the morning crowd going with a stunning 4-2 win over Paris Olympic and world bronze medalist Gulomjon ABDULLAEV (UZB) in their preliminary round bout at freestyle 57kg. In a generally dull bout, the two traded activity points before Abdullaev scored a stepout with a minute to go. But Ogawa fights off a whizzer and forces Abdullaev out to go up 2-2 on criteria. In the final seconds, Ogawa counters a leg-trip for a match-clinching takedown. Next up is a clash with another Paris bronze medalist - AMAN (IND).
10:40: Chongsong HAN (PRK), world champion at 57kg, makes short work of Mahabub ALAM (BAN) in the opening round. He scores a takedown before turning him for a 6-0 lead. A head throw for four as he wins 10-0
