MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (September 29) -- The Uruguayan Wrestling Federation presented new wrestling mats received from United World Wrestling through its grassroots program.
The new mats were presented at a ceremony attended by the highest authorities of the Government of Uruguay, as well as Uruguayan Olympic Committee President Julio C. MAGLIONE. UWW Américas President Francisco LEE, UWW Development Director Deqa NIAMKEY and UWW Sports and Development Officer Yuri MAIER attended the ceremony virtually.
At the ceremony, Maglione acknowledged the work carried out by United World Wrestling and praised Nenad LALOVIC, UWW's president.
The new mats were installed in the newly created Combat Sports Center located in Montevideo, Uruguay's capital city. The Sports Center, run by the Sports National Secretary, will host meetings and exchanges with other National Federations of South America.
In 2017, United World Wrestling contributed to the federation's initiative to launch more wrestling programs, receive wrestling mats, and launch a series of action plans to promote wrestling in schools and among the youth.
The Uruguayan Wrestling Federation is now in position to execute the next phase of its strategic plan, which includes training for coaches, training for national teams, working with young people with potential for this discipline, as well as multiplying sports initiation schools in different locations of the country.
