An athlete or referee who has already participated in an international competition published on the UWW calendar representing one country and wishes to participate in an international competition representing another country must follow a nationality change procedure, in accordance with the regulations set out below.
Likewise, a wrestler holding multiple nationalities (passports) may choose one nationality when applying for a first UWW licence. Depending on whether or not he/she has previously engaged in national-level activity in one of the two countries, some specific supporting documents may be required. If the applicable conditions are not met, the first licence application will be treated as a nationality change.
The Nationality Regulations govern the entire procedure applicable to a change of nationality. They specify the conditions to be met, the required documents, the applicable fees, and other relevant requirements. They also define the restrictions and any waiting periods that may apply to an athlete following a change of nationality.
