About Sergey

Born in Ruzayevka in Mordovia, Russia, Emelin was the defending champion at the 2019 World Championships in Nursultan and was well on his way to win his second title but suffered a 10-5 loss at the hands of Kenchiro FUMITA of Japan. Prior to that bout, he had not given up a single point in three matches. By virtue of his silver medal, Russia qualified the weight for the Tokyo Games. A year before in Budapest, he won the gold medal, outscoring his opponents 44-1. A European champion as well, Emelin will be wrestling at his first Olympics in Tokyo at the 60kg weight class. He is seeded second and a rematch with Fumita is on cards who is seeded first.
