About Sharif

A world and Olympic champion at 84kg, Sharif SHARIFOV (AZE) qualified for the Tokyo Games at 97kg by winning a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. He lost to Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) in the final. He won the gold at the London Games and a bronze medal in the Rio Olympics at 86kg. Born in Dagestan, Russia, he has been competing for Azerbaijan since 2008. He won his first world medal -- a bronze -- in 2009. He won the gold at Worlds in 2011. At the Worlds in 2019, he defeated defending Olympic and two-time World champion Kyle SNYDER of USA, 5-2. He will be wrestling at his third straight Olympics.
