Scholarships for Elite Female Athletes, Coaches and Referees

Leadership Program for Elite Female Coaches

United World Wrestling is one of the IFs which have teamed up with the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity program to offer a 14-month programme for a limited number of high-performance coaches. The program is in direct support of Recommendation 6 of the IOC’s Gender Equality Review Project, which seeks to increase the share of female coaches at the Olympic Games.

The program will be managed by the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy at the University of Hertfordshire, Great Britain.

The Women’s Sport Leadership Academy for High Performance Coaches (WSLA HPC) has been specially designed and developed in cooperation with United World Wrestling for high-performance coaches, with the aim of preparing coaches to step up and be part of the increased cohort of their peers at the Continental, International and Olympic Games.

Scholarships for Female International Referees

United World Wrestling (UWW) has established a dedicated scholarship program aimed at fostering the growth and advancement of women referees within the field. The primary objective of this initiative is to cultivate a pool of proficient female referees who can officiate in future Olympic games. The program plays a pivotal role in providing opportunities for women referees to enhance their skills and competencies.

Structured into two distinct categories, the scholarships are designed to support women referees in their pursuit of professional development:

  • Full Scholarship
Selected referees are granted comprehensive support, encompassing round-trip flights, as well as accommodations during the event.
  • Partial Scholarship
UWW extends support by covering accommodations for women referees attending competitions.

Annually, UWW awards approximately 10 scholarships to deserving women, facilitating their participation in promotion competitions crucial for career advancement. It is essential to note that the application for the UWW Women Referee Scholarship Program must be submitted by the National Federation before the end of December, preceding the upcoming year.

In addition to the scholarship program, UWW organizes an annual Women's Referee Course, a vital component in the holistic development of women referees worldwide. UWW covers accommodations for both the course and the subsequent competition, underscoring its commitment to the comprehensive development of women referees.
