World Champs Shotadze, Szoke Win Gold in GR at Cadet European C'ships

SARAJEVAO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (July 29) – Returning cadet world champions Giorgi SHOTADZE (GEO) and Alex SZOKE (HUN) came through to win titles in Greco-Roman on Saturday at the Cadet European Championships.

Shotadze won his second straight European gold medal and third medal, beating Mustafa YILDIRIM (TUR) 3-1 in the finals. Yildirim held a 1-1 criteria lead until the final 10 seconds when Shotadze scored with a step out, which was challenged and upheld.

Szoke blanked Muhammed DURSUN (TUR) 2-0 in the gold-medal match at 85kg. The Hungarian surrendered only one point in five matches.

Azerbaijan opened the Greco-Roman competition by claiming a pair of gold medals from Hasrat JAFAROV (42kg) and Asim IMANZADE (69kg).

Jafarov came through to win gold at 42kg, beating Daniel PRAMATAROV (ITA) 3-0 in the gold-medal match, while Imanzade topped Ruslan MOSHIIAN (RUS) 3-1 for gold at 69kg. 

Guseyn GUSEINOV (RUS) won a gold medal at 50kg after claiming a bronze medal last year at 46kg. He blanked Niklas OEHLEN (SWE), a Nordic Championships gold medalist, 7-0 in the finals. Guseinov led 1-0 at the break and opened up the scoring in the second period with a takedown and two gut wrenches.

Georgia and Armenia both won a pair of bronze medals on Saturday. Georgia's bronze medals came from Akaki OSIASHVILI (50kg) and Davit SOLOGASHVIL (69kg). Armenia wrestlers Hayk ASATRYAN (50kg) and Sargis TADEVOSYAN (69kg) left with bronze. 

Winning bronze medals at 42kg were Islam KIMBAROV (RUS) and Constantin TUDOR (ROU).

Hasan MAMMADLI (AZE) and Eldar HASANAU (BLR) were bronze-medal winners at 58kg.

Ilias PAGKALIDIS (GRE) and Vojtech PISKOR (CZE) grabbed the final two bronze medals at 85kg.
