Victor CIOBANU (MDA) qualified for his first Olympics in his third attempt. After failing to enter the London and Rio Games, the Moldovan won the World Qualifiers in Sofia to earn a ticket to Tokyo Olympics. A world silver medalist in 2018 and European champion in 2019, Ciobanu missed his first chance to qualify as he finished ninth at the 2019 Worlds. But in Sofia, he defeated Dato CHKHARTISHVILI (GEO) in the semifinal to confirm his spot.
