Kiryl MASKEVICH (BLR) has risen rapidly in the last year to claim the Tokyo spot on Belarus' team. The quota for the country was won by Mikalai STADUB (BLR) as he finished fifth at the 2019 World Championships in Nursultan. But Maskevich's performances in the last year which saw him win the gold at Individual World Cup in 2020 and a silver at European Championships 2021, making him the ideal choice. Born in Borisov, Belarus, Maskevich has notched up some big wins. At the Euros in 2021, he humbled World silver medalist Viktor LORINCZ (HUN) and came back from 0-6 down to beat Milad ALIRZAEV (RUS) via fall. He lost to Zurabi DATUNASHVILI (SRB) in the final. He had defeated the Serb at the Individual World Cup in the semifinal 11-3. In the final in Belgrade, he humbled Olympic champion Davit CHAKVETADZE 10-0.
