Wrestling Renews Partnership with European Broadcasting Union

United World Wrestling and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have renewed their partnership agreement for exclusive European media rights for the European and World Championships.

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (March 9) -- United World Wrestling and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have renewed their partnership agreement for exclusive European media rights for the European and World Championships.

The deal extends the current contract through to 2020.

“We are excited to partner with the EBU to continue the expansion of our media outreach,” said United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic. “The company’s reach will give wrestling unique possibilities in the European marketplace.”

The EBU will also be the exclusive technical provider for United World Wrestling’s worldwide television distribution. 

The partnership grants media rights in Europe for seven championships in total, including four European Continental Championships and three World Championships.

Each event will feature men's freestyle, women’s wrestling and Greco-Roman.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is the world’s leading alliance of public service media (PSM). They serve 73 Members in 56 countries that run over 780 TV and 1040 radio services and broadcast in 123 languages to a potential audience of 1.03 billion people. An additional 21 Associates operate in Asia, Africa and the Americas. The EBU operates EUROVISION and EURORADIO. The EBU’s Sports Rights portfolio is extensive working with more than 25 international sports federations and handling more than 30 contracts. This represents around 150 events including approximately 680 competition days which they may also produce and distribute. In 2015, the Eurovision worldwide network distributed more than 90’000 hours of footage; 75.000 hours of it were sports.
